What are Google Ads?

First, let’s understand what Google ads are.

Before that here’s a really interesting fact. On the Google search engine, every second 2.3 million searchings are happening.

Well, this explains the potential of Google to expand your business is huge.

Why? Because the amount of searches is huge.

People are searching all day every day for solutions to their problems on Google. Therefore, businesses like yours can take advantage of this and can get customers from Google by showing them ads when they are looking for what you’ve to offer.

Now, let’s see what Google ads are.

Google Ads is the largest and most widely used online advertising platform in the world. With Google Ads, even beginners can quickly create successful online ads that make a positive impact on their bottom line.

For those just starting with Google Ads, it’s important to understand how the platform works and what features are available.

Advertisers create various types of campaigns where they specify target audiences, budgets, ad text or images, and goals for their ad campaigns. They can then use sophisticated tools such as keyword research and analytics reports to optimize performance.

What is the difference between organic and paid results?

When you enter any search query in the Google search engine, Google presents you with a result page. In technical terms, it’s called a SERP – a search engine result page.

On this page, Google will give you multiple types of solutions for your query.

For example, let’s say you are looking for a pest controller in your local area. You may type the “pest controller around me” search term in Google.

Now based on your location, Google will present you with multiple types of results on the result page.

The result page may include paid ads results, organic results (free listings), local results with a map, etc. The paid results will have a special tag on them – either Ad or Sponsored, etc. You can see an example in the image below.

As you can see in the image that the first 3 results are tagged with the word sponsored. This shows that these are paid results or listings. Someone paid Google money to show their ad above the free (organic results).

You can find these paid results above and below the organic results. Usually, the count of such results is restricted to 3-4 ads.

The example ad results in the image are Search Text Ads. Google can show you multiple types of paid result ads. For example, shopping ads.

Let’s now learn about the multiple types of ads available on the Google platform.

Types of Google Ads

Google Ads is one of the most powerful advertising platforms available on the internet today. It offers a wide range of campaigns that allow businesses to reach their target audiences and increase brand awareness.

Understanding what types of campaigns are available in Google Ads can help you determine which one is best suited for your business goals.

There are four main campaign types in Google Ads: search, display, video, and shopping.

Each type serves a different purpose and can be tailored to meet the specific goals of your business or organization.

Search campaigns allow businesses to target users based on keywords they use in their searches, while display campaigns focus on visual ads shown around the web.

Video campaigns allow businesses to engage with potential customers through video content and shopping campaigns let businesses list products directly within search results. Based on these four types Google offers you multiple campaign types as shown in the image below.

These campaign types may change over time. Don’t be surprised if you see any new type or a different name for an existing type.

Google keeps improving its platform and as part of that, you will see changes in its campaign types. However, the underline concept will remain the same.

If you see a new campaign type, just do a Google search and you’ll find articles to update your knowledge.

One important to note is that every campaign type is not for every business type. You’ll select the campaign type based on the business you are promoting. For example, if you are selling products online the Shopping ad campaign type makes more sense for your business rather than the Search ad campaign type.
